Home / Scan for malicious malware
The definition files contain structural data about all computer viruses known to date. Cyric is able to recognize any virus by using these definition files. These definitions need to be updated frequently which is taken care of by Service Planet HQ. We strive to update the anti-virus definitions every two weeks (14 days).
Currently we have two channels:
Test
Stable
All definition files will first be tested internally at Service Planet HQ on the "Test"-channel. After this check succeeded, we deploy the definition files to the "Stable" channel.
NOTE: The steps described below are a follow up of Getting started.
Cyric Client UI - Virus Scan (version 4.2.1)
From the Cyric dashboard, click on the "Virus Scan" module.
Enter a optional reference
The reference is a handle that can be used to search for your report in the Melissan web portal. Make sure you fill in a name or identification code that is relevant to the device. We will explain you how to search for the report at the end of this page.
Select the partition which you would like to scan for malware.
The nodes that are visible in the drive tree represent the device's partitions. Instead of scanning the entire partition, you are also able to scan a specific directory.
Start scanning.
NOTE: Every time you starting a virus scan, Cyric will check if the server is up-to-date with the Stable definition channel as explained in Definitions. In case the definition file does not exists on the server, Cyric will download these in the background. When that job has finished, it will notify the client to resume it's scanning process.
Cyric Client UI - Virus scan (version 4.2.1)
It is quite possible that the device you are scanning has been infected by a virus or malware. Cyric will recognize this. However not all applications found are viruses. They can be safe but probably contain functionality that is potentially dangerous and leaves a security vurnability for the owner of the device. Some are even "false positives" which mean that they are detected as a virus but are completely harmless.
As shown on the picture below, we have a example of ExpressVPN_7.12.1.4_release.exe. And Cyric detected the contanimation (virusname) Win.Virus.Shodi-9935335-0. The intention of this virus is to spread by attaching it's code to other files on the PC or network, and some programs will no longer run correctly because of it.
It would be wise to choose the action Remove so the owner of the device can continue working safely on his computer.
Cyric Client UI - Virus scan (version 4.2.1)
NOTE: A false positive occurs when an antivirus erroneously identifies a legitimate file or process as malware. This can happen with signature-based scans as well as behavior analysis.
After the scan has completed, you can choose a action for each virus found and press the button Execute actions to complete the process.
The actions that you can choose are:
Ignore
Selecting "Ignore" will keep the file on the computer. This action can be chosen when you are 100% certain that a specific file is not any kind of virus.
Delete
To be absolutely safe you can choose "Delete". This will delete the file from the computer.
WARNING
When you choose to delete a detected virus. Keep in mind that the virus and the file won't be seperated in any way.
Choosing to delete a virus means that you will delete the file as a whole.
The results can be found on the Melissan web portal.
Search the device asset by entering the device's serial number in the Quick Search bar at the upper right corner.
Select the matching device.
The page that is currently visible shows you a compact history of all Cyric events.
