Home / Destroy all personal data securely
WARNING: When using this feature, keep in mind that the selected drive wiped! This action is irreversible which means that all your data on this drive will be lost! Any attempt to recover the lost data will fail.
NOTE: The steps described below are a follow up of Getting started.
The data destruction is a functionality built in Cyric that wipes out all data from a storage device. The basis of this functionality is to verify each part of wiped data. Depending on the chosen destruction method (which will be explained in the following topic), the process will take a set amount of time.
Reasons to destroy your data include various ways of privacy. Think about selling a computer, and you need to be absolutely sure there is no data left from the previous owner. Then, the data destruction functionality is the perfect tool for you.

TIP: Cyric is not limited to the device's internal storages only. If you would like to wipe a external drive (USB), you are able to do so with the Data Destruction tool of Cyric. Cyric has a built-in fail-safe mechanism which prohibits you from (accidentally) wiping the Cyric USB.
Fast
The fastest method, which is only available when Secure Erase has been checked. Will also use secure erase only when the device supports it, otherwise will use a single pass with minimal validation.
Balanced
This method has a good balance between speed and safety. Just like Fast; performs a single pass, but with 50% validation of it's data.
Extensive
Using extensive focuses on safety at the cost of the speed. Does three passes and validates all (100%) of it's data.
Paranoid
The most secure method available, performs very slow. Does nine passes and validates all (100%) of it's data.
Some storage devices support the usage of "Secure Erase". This feature can (as the name implies) securely erase all data from a drive. This happens to be substantial faster than a low level format of the drive. If the drive supports it, Cyric will use this feature. If it doesn't, then Cyric will fallback to it's default data destruction method.
WARNING: When using this feature, keep in mind that the drive selected will be wiped! All your data on this drive will be lost! Any attempt to recover the data will fail.
From the Cyric dashboard, click on the "Data Destruction" module.
Select a destruction method.More information about the available destruction methods can be found here.
Mark the checkbox to enable secure erase.More information about secure erase can be found here.
Enter a optional reference. The reference is a handle that can be used to search for your data destruction report in the Melissan web portal. Make sure you fill in a name or identification code that is relevant to the device. We will explain you how to search for the report at the end of this page.
Start the destruction by pressing the button Start destruction.
TIP: Cyric allows you to select multiple drives to start the destruction of these drives in one go. They will be wiped one after the other. The report that can be found on the Melissan web portal will contain all the drives that Cyric wiped during this event.
Using the checkbox at the bottom left you can immediately shut down the device after successful completion. This saves energy and you can immediately see what has already been completed and what is still in progress.
